"Fur-tree" traditions
The first written mention of the New Year's (Christmas) fur-tree concerns 16 century. In the German city of Strasbourg and poor men, and notable families decorated ate with a colour paper, fruit and sweets in the winter. Gradually this tradition has extended across all Europe. The tradition to celebrate New year with a fur-tree has appeared in Russia at Peter I. In 1699 it has published the decree which has entered new chronology - A.D., and New year has enjoined to celebrate in an European way - on January, 1st. The imperial decree to all inhabitants of Moscow was велено to mark a meeting of New year: to light in a New Year's eve fires, to start up fireworks, to congratulate each other, to decorate houses coniferous trees. Tangerines - New Year's fruit
